A fabulous leisure lake nearby Pressignac, with an equestrian centre, invites you for fishing, swimming and watersports, one of many activities avaliable. There is an extensive network of footpaths winding through the Charentais landscape where you can enjoy a stroll taking in that breath of refreshing French air.
Limoges, which is about a 40 minute drive from your Gite, is famous for its porcelain and you can visit the factories where guided tours are avaliable. The Bernardaud Factory was founded in 1863 and its guided tour shows the different stages of porcelain manufacture. Royal Limoges is one of the oldest porcelain manufacturers operating since 1797 and features its classified kiln. Le Musée National de la Porcelaine Adrien Dubouché is one of the two museums dedicated to ceramics. The enamel workshops show this traditional craft which was developed in the 12th century. A style particular to Limoges, called Champlevé, is known worldwide.
The City itself is a mixture of old and new with its underground passages, Cathedral, Abbey, Gardens and the amazing Limoges-Bénédictins Train Station with its oriental dome dominated by a 60-metre high clock tower. Inside the main hall you can admire the sculptures and stained glass windows of Francis Chigot. You can discover more of Limoges by taking the Small Tourist Train during the holiday periods.

Saint-Junien is 12kms from your Gite and is a charming town specialising in leather gloves and goods. There is a Golf Course on the outskirts.
Oradour-sur-Glane (30kms) is a martyred village which stands as a testimony for the conscience of the world. The Centre de la Memoire gives a picture of that day on June 10th 1944. Discover the Circuit des Mégalithes at Monts de Blond (25kms) the land of legend.
Montemort at the foot of the Monts de Blond was chosen as one of the 130 most beautiful villages in France. Chateauponsac is where the costumes and interiors of 'days gone by' are protrayed in the local museum.
Take the route of Richard The Lionheart where fortresses and castles mark out this historical route.
The Chateau of Rochechouart (15kms) is a magnificient 15th century building which houses the Department Museum of Contemporary Art and an exceptional collection of 16th centary frescoes. The Metorite Centre presents an exhibition of one of the most violent metorite impacts.
Go canoeing down La Vienne at Exidueil (12kms) to Manot. You are supplied with all the equipment, plus guide, and you gently wind your way down this beautiful river with its wildlife, scenery and old mills for about 2 hours.
Confolens (15 kms) is a medieval town with a beautiful old bridge. A guided tour is avaliable from the Tourist Office which discribes how Confolens came into being; the salt route and where the gates were located to fortify this town. Its is full of ancient buildings and gardens. The Velo-Rail is a ride along the old railway track to Manot, and back, on 'tram-bikes.'
The Dordogne Valley (2 hours drive) is where all the pre-historic cave paintings are located as well as many beautiful villages.
